The Youth Accountability Board (YAB) of Bonner County works with first-time offenders under age 18 who have been arrested and charged with a non-violent crime or received a minor in possession citation. We provide an alternative to the formal judicial system that could result in a fine, conviction, detention in the Juvenile Detention Facility, formal probation, and a permanent record.
Our Board Members are dedicated community volunteers who provide an 8-week diversion program for tweens and teens referred by the Prosecutor's Office. This program helps young offenders avoid a formal record through community service, education, and reflection focused on positive change. We have been proudly serving our community for 38 years.
Our dedicated YAB citizen volunteers come from many diverse backgrounds, experiences, and communities. We share a passion for empowering youth, believing in second chances, and fostering personal accountability and restitution. We witness firsthand the transformative impact on young lives and our community with an extremely low re-offense rate.
We meet with youth who have been recommended for our diversion program on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays after 5:00 p.m - by appointment only.
We are also available on Tuesdays at the Bonner County Courthouse after 3 p.m. for pretrial diversion.
Please email or call if you need to speak with one of our members or your contact person.
